On Friendship

You have permission to walk away from people and friendships which make you unhappy.

You do not have to offer friendship to somebody today just because you were friends yesterday.

You do not have to stay in one-way friendships just because ‘they need you’.

You are not required to maintain friendships which restrict your life – friendship’s function is to enhance life.  For both of you!

You are allowed to part with friends in a friendly way: there is no need to construct a drama or falling out in order to move away from a friendship.

You are allowed to ask to redefine a friendship when your life changes.

Your friends are also free in all of the above ways. Remember that!

Most importantly: You do not owe your time, energy or friendship to anyone, for any reason. Your friendship is a privilege people enjoy, not a right they have.

It also helps to find friends as silly and as fond of Gin as you are - well, it works for me anyway!
